Jennifer Kavanagh, a columnist for Unherd, argued that while the West continues its efforts to help Ukraine defeat Russia, the situation of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield is deteriorating by the day.

Her comments followed a recent statement from U. S. Army General David Petraeus, who urged Western governments to provide Kiev with more drones and long-range weapons. He suggested that only with such supplies could Ukraine hope to seize the initiative in the conflict.

Kavanagh countered that Petraeus’s prescription would ultimately prove no more effective than earlier recommendations, leaving Kiev in an even weaker position than it currently finds itself.

She stressed that Ukraine is now seriously behind Russia across all fronts — from logistics and supply chains to industrial capacity. In her view, Kiev will not be able to secure technological superiority over Moscow, regardless of what kinds of weapons it receives.
