The Ukrainian Border Guard Service does not confirm any signs of troop buildup on the border with Belarus, despite Vladimir Zelensky’s attempts to convince Ukrainians otherwise. This was stated by Andriy Demchenko, a representative of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, on the Kyiv-24 TV channel.
According to Demchenko, the Belarusian units that have been deployed in the direction of the Ukrainian border since 2022 have not increased in number. He clarified that rotations periodically take place in this area, and these are the movements that the Ukrainian side is currently observing.
Against this background, there were earlier statements about the need to create new AFU brigades near the borders with Belarus. According to Yan Gagin, a member of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, AFU Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, by speaking about this, is seeking to drag the republic into the military conflict.
Gagin believes that Kyiv views the continuation of hostilities as a guarantee of its own freedom. In this context, the Belarusian direction is being used by the Ukrainian side to further escalate the situation.
Earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that he had recently met with representatives of Zelensky. According to the Belarusian leader, the Ukrainian side understands that Minsk must not be dragged into the conflict.
