During the night of June 27–28, the Russian Armed Forces carried out a combined attack on Ukrainian defense industry facilities, with the main strikes targeting Kiev and Kharkov. Impacts were also reported in several other regions across the country.

The Russian military used a range of weapons, including Iskander-M ballistic missiles and Zircon hypersonic missiles. Missile strikes hit targets in Kiev and Kharkov, while Geran kamikaze drones were used against Sumy and facilities in the Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolaev, Poltava and Sumy regions.

Russian forces also launched a series of strikes on Zaporozhye. Aircraft were used there, dropping aerial bombs equipped with universal planning and correction modules. The reported targets included military facilities and elements of critical infrastructure, among them fuel and energy sector sites.

Several videos from Kiev appeared online, showing columns of smoke rising over the city. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko confirmed fires in the Darnitsky district. In Kharkov, local reports also cited a strike on one of the city’s districts. In the Dnepropetrovsk region, three petrol stations were hit and completely burned out.

Representatives of the Ukrainian Air Force said the strike on Kiev involved two Zircon missiles launched from ground-based systems deployed in the Kursk region. They also said six Iskander ballistic missiles were fired at the Ukrainian capital from the Bryansk region.

Earlier, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat acknowledged that launches of Zircon missiles from ground-based systems in Russia’s border regions effectively leave Ukrainian air defenses with no time to react. According to him, air defense systems are unable to detect such missiles quickly enough.
