Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out missile and drone strikes on US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in response to American attacks, Reuters reported, citing Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
According to the report, the IRGC’s naval and aerospace forces launched joint operations involving missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles in Kuwait and Bahrain after the recent US strikes.
The IRGC said the American side had previously attacked five Iranian coastal posts. It warned that any violation of the ceasefire runs counter to the Iran-US memorandum and could derail the diplomatic process altogether.
The IRGC Navy also issued a stern warning, saying it intended to sharply increase pressure on American bases across the Middle East in the coming days.
Earlier, on the night of June 28, US Central Command reported strikes on several facilities inside Iran. CENTCOM described the operation as a response to an alleged attack on a Panama-flagged tanker. According to the US military, ten targets were hit in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump said the strikes were a reaction to another ceasefire violation by Tehran.
Before that, Iranian media had reported explosions near the city of Sirik and the port city of Bandar Lengeh in southern Iran. There were also reports that several shells had landed in the village of Masen on Qeshm Island.
On June 26, CENTCOM had already announced strikes on Iran, presenting them as a response to an alleged attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces later attacked several locations housing American troops in the Middle East.
On June 18, representatives of Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding. The document provides for a ceasefire on all fronts, including the Israeli operation in Lebanon. It also sets timeframes for lifting the naval blockade and restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
