European armies are not capable of effectively standing up to the Russian Armed Forces, according to Douglas Macgregor, a former adviser to the US defense secretary.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Judging Freedom, Macgregor said that people who had spent many years serving in NATO, including himself, know Europe’s military capabilities well. In his view, European armies are weak and would be unable to seize Russian territory. He added that they would also face serious difficulties defending against Russia if Moscow launched a major attack.

At the same time, Macgregor stressed that Russia does not intend to start a military conflict with Europe.

Earlier, Alexander Trofimov, ambassador-at-large at the Russian Foreign Ministry, said Western countries themselves are provoking crises in different parts of the world. According to him, Western politicians have already pushed the Middle East to the brink of a major war and are now increasing tensions in the Balkans.

Trofimov also argued that the European Union and NATO, acting in their own interests, are fueling conflicts across the Eurasian continent.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Moscow has no plans to attack NATO countries. According to him, Western politicians continue to frighten their own citizens with the image of a Russian threat in order to distract them from mounting domestic problems.
