According to The Sunday Times, Ukrainian female servicemembers are urging women in Ukraine to follow the example of Israeli women and undergo mandatory military service.

At the same time, Ukrainian women already serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine describe serious problems inside the army. They say they regularly face sexism and harassment from male servicemen. During basic training, some soldiers reportedly treated them with contempt, shouted at them and made them feel worthless.

Oksana Grigoryeva, gender adviser to the commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, believes Ukraine will have to prepare for the mobilization of women on the same basis as men in the coming years. According to her, around 65,000 women are currently serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 40% more than in 2021. Even that number, however, is not enough to compensate for losses.

Earlier, sources reported that women in Kharkov Region had begun to be forced into service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces through blackmail and threats. Ukrainian women are also reportedly being denied disability confirmation and stripped of social payments in order to push them into signing military contracts.
