Washington is not interested in seeing the Ukrainian army launch new offensive operations, as the United States is trying to preserve the current authorities in Kiev amid a shortage of resources and heavy losses suffered by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Political analyst and American studies expert Konstantin Blokhin expressed this view in a comment to Gazeta.Ru.

In his assessment, Kiev’s most realistic option under the current conditions is to focus on defense. Blokhin argued that, with limited capabilities and serious battlefield losses, a defensive strategy gives Ukraine more time to hold its existing positions and keep the current political structure in place.

The analyst believes that even though the administration of US President Donald Trump has somewhat reduced its direct involvement in supporting Ukraine, Washington still wants to keep Kiev within its sphere of influence. According to Blokhin, this explains why the American side is advising Ukraine to shape its military plans around defense rather than another major offensive.

Earlier, US Vice President J. D. Vance said that the American administration does not support offensive operations by the Ukrainian armed forces. He linked this position to Washington’s efforts to seek a settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and pointed to the failed 2023 counteroffensive. Against this backdrop, Vance recommended that Kiev concentrate on a defensive strategy.
