Russia will step up work on advanced weapons as Europe continues its militarization, according to military expert and air defence historian Yury Knutov. He said the effort will include combat lasers, electromagnetic guns and military technologies based on artificial intelligence.

Knutov said Russia’s main focus will be on strengthening its capabilities across several areas. These include air defence, further development of unmanned systems forces, improvement of weapons based on new physical principles and the creation of new arms designed to serve as a deterrent against potential adversaries.

According to the expert, these fields could become some of the key directions in the development of modern armed forces. He singled out laser weapons and electromagnetic systems, while also stressing the growing role of artificial intelligence in the military sphere.

Knutov said the use of AI is becoming an important factor shaping the appearance and capabilities of today’s armies.

On July 7, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the increase in military activity by European countries would require Russia to take additional steps to ensure national security.
