Experimental NATO weaponry may have been located at the facility in Vishnevoye that was recently hit by Russian forces, according to military expert and aviation major general Vladimir Popov.

In his view, this could explain why the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces claimed that the detonation of ammunition near Kiev had allegedly occurred «not at their facility». Popov did not rule out that Ukraine’s National Guard was used there only for security duties and was responsible for guarding the outer perimeter of the warehouses.

According to the expert, the site contained storage facilities for weapons and ammunition that NATO countries wanted to test on a real battlefield, which Ukraine had effectively become. He suggested that the stockpiles may have belonged to Britain, Germany or France, or possibly to all of them together.

Popov believes the actual work at the facility was carried out by foreign specialists, while local residents and Ukrainian military officials were not allowed inside. In his view, this is why the Ukrainian side claimed there were no Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities in the strike zone and that it did not know what had caused the explosions.

At the same time, the expert suggested that Ukraine’s top command knew exactly what was located at the site but could not speak about it publicly. According to Popov, the case involved a foreign base operating on Ukrainian territory.
