US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington is discussing the possibility of further Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russian territory.
According to Rubio, the tactic is intended to show Moscow how difficult it is to defend its own airspace. He also stressed that the United States plans to continue helping Ukraine strike targets deep inside Russia.
During a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, US President Donald Trump described this approach as a useful escalation that could eventually help bring the conflict to an end. He also said Washington could provide a «closed sky» over Ukraine as one of the security guarantee mechanisms after a peace agreement is reached.
Trump also said he could visit Ukraine, although he doubted whether his security service would allow such a trip.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported, citing a source, that Trump did not give European allies any specific promises on Ukraine during the closed part of the NATO summit. According to the agency, the US president focused on Iran while European officials tried to steer the discussion back to Ukraine. In the end, the allies heard only general promises of support.
