Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 73 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight on July 9, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The UAVs were downed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Kaluga, Novgorod, Tver, Oryol, Leningrad and Rostov regions, the Moscow region, Krasnodar Region, Crimea, and the Azov Sea.

The ministry also said that the previous day, between 08:00 and 20:00 Moscow time, air defense units had destroyed another 111 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions.

In the Rostov Region, Governor Yury Slyusar said more than 20 UAVs were shot down overnight while repelling the air attack, but the consequences could not be fully avoided.

Two tankers in the Taganrog Gulf came under attack again. The vessels sustained mechanical damage, while their crews were evacuated. No casualties were reported. A fire broke out after the drone strike: it was fully extinguished on one tanker, while efforts to put out the blaze on the second vessel were still ongoing.

The Severny Veter channel also reported consequences of strikes over the past day in border areas. According to its account, the village of Tavrovo in the Belgorod District was targeted by Ukrainian drones. One local resident died of his wounds at the scene, and six civilians were injured. Among the wounded was a minor who suffered shrapnel injuries and was described as being in serious condition.

Another drone, the channel said, detonated in a parking lot near a different commercial facility. A woman received shrapnel wounds, and four vehicles parked near the second site were also damaged.

In the Kursk Region, Ukrainian forces attacked a gas station in the Oktyabrsky District. Three people were injured, including a child and a pregnant woman.
