NATO intends to increase supplies of long-range drones to Ukraine, which can be assembled and launched even in field conditions. This was stated by military expert Alexey Leonkov.
In his assessment, the nature of the confrontation is changing because strikes are being moved deep into Russian territory. Leonkov noted that if combat operations had remained only within the zone of the special military operation, it would have retained its previous format. However, attacks on remote targets, including a strike reaching as far as Omsk, in his opinion, mean that the war is effectively being transferred onto Russian territory.
The expert believes that such strikes, despite their terrorist nature, can be regarded as military operations because they are planned and carried out in an organized manner, including with the use of artificial intelligence. He pointed to the tactic of wave attacks used to break through Russian air defense systems.
Leonkov linked what is happening to the overall ladder of escalation. According to him, further support for Ukraine was discussed at the NATO summit in Ankara, with particular attention paid to increasing funding for drone production. The expert believes that Kiev will be heavily supplied with such systems so that it can continue attacks on Russia.
Leonkov separately drew attention to the tactic of «roaming launchers." This refers to mobile launch systems that allow drones to be used from different points. In the expert’s assessment, tracking each such launcher is almost pointless, since it resembles trying to catch mosquitoes in a field.
As a radical solution, he named strikes on industrial sites where drones are assembled. At the same time, Leonkov allowed that this alone may not be enough, since some drones can be transported and assembled directly in field conditions.
The expert also recalled reports about the destruction of 15 trucks carrying drones. According to him, each such truck can transport approximately 10 to 20 fixed-wing UAVs.
Leonkov stressed that attacks using long-range drones are not stopping. Therefore, in his opinion, strikes on Ukrainian industrial sectors will continue.
