The latest Zavarukha acoustic reconnaissance system has begun to be used in the zone of the special military operation. This was reported by an official representative of NPO Alfa, according to TASS.
The organization explained that this is a compact sound reconnaissance system designed for counter-battery warfare and for detecting enemy firing positions. According to the developers, the size of the system’s microphone array does not exceed one meter.
Zavarukha has already undergone combat testing in several areas. NPO Alfa said the system had been tested in the DPR, LPR, Belgorod, Bryansk and Zaporozhye regions.
The developers note that the system is capable of detecting targets at a range of up to 27 kilometers. At distances of more than 20 kilometers, the margin of error is no more than 400 meters, while at a range of 12 kilometers it is up to 150 meters.
Among the system’s advantages are its autonomy and low visibility. Zavarukha can operate on battery power for up to five days and does not reveal its position because it works in passive mode.
During combat use, according to the developers, the system has already helped identify Ukrainian troop positions. Among the detected targets were Caesar and Krab self-propelled artillery systems.
NPO Alfa also stressed that the new system is significantly cheaper than the Penicillin and AZK-7M systems currently in service. According to the developers, Zavarukha costs 60 times less, does not require a vehicle chassis or a large crew, and surpasses analogues in the effectiveness of mortar detection.
