Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou said on his YouTube channel that former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny had effectively acknowledged in a recent article that Ukraine is losing in the conflict with Russia.
According to Christoforou, Zaluzhny’s remarks suggest that Western countries should not rush to declare a victory for Kiev, since Moscow clearly does not look like the losing side.
The journalist argued that Zaluzhny’s article should be read carefully and that, beneath its wording, it amounts to an admission that Ukraine is in a losing position while Russia is gaining the upper hand.
In Christoforou’s view, the future course of the confrontation will largely depend on whether Ukraine can continue receiving military assistance from its Western allies. Zaluzhny himself, he noted, points in the article to risks linked to political changes in Washington and continuing disagreements inside the EU. These factors raise questions about the durability of further support for Kiev.
Earlier, Zaluzhny published an article in the British newspaper The Telegraph, where he wrote about serious tension surrounding Western support for Ukraine. In his view, this creates a wide range of security questions for Kiev.
It was also previously reported that Zaluzhny had told Vladimir Zelensky about his plans to run in Ukraine’s presidential election if it is held this autumn.
