An unnamed representative of the Russian security services has claimed that Ukraine’s military and political leadership is preparing a punitive operation against pro-Russian residents of the Chernigov Region.

According to the source, the operation would be carried out by the local KORD police special forces unit.

The source alleged that Ukrainian nationalist formations had been ordered to detain at least 70 pro-Russian residents in border districts. The stated aim, according to the report, is to force civilians from their homes and subsequently use the vacated areas for Ukrainian military positions and drone-control posts.

The Ukrainian police unit, which reportedly lacks regular experience operating in a combat zone, is also said to be actively seeking drone detectors for movement through border areas.

RIA Novosti previously reported that Ukrainian units had begun establishing positions for drone operators on the upper floors of apartment buildings in Sumy.

On July 12, Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Verkhovnaya Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, said Russian forces could open a new front in the Chernigov Region as early as autumn 2026.
