Russian forces would destroy NATO troops if they were deployed on Ukrainian territory, according to Vladimir Dzhabarov, deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.
Dzhabarov said there should be no doubt that any such contingent would be targeted with whatever weapons were required. In his view, NATO forces have no place in Ukraine, which must remain a neutral state. Otherwise, he argued, the conflict would either continue or end in a severe defeat for Europe.
The senator also said the current generation of European politicians had become so deeply affected by Russophobia that their position could no longer be changed. He believes any shift in policy will only become possible after a new political generation comes to power in Europe.
Dzhabarov added that Russia launched its special military operation in 2022 not only to pursue the stated goals of demilitarizing and denazifying Ukraine. Another declared objective was to prevent NATO troops from appearing on Ukrainian territory and to stop Kiev from seeking integration into the alliance.
A summit of the so-called coalition of the willing is scheduled to take place in Paris on July 13. According to Euronews, France plans to propose that its partners deploy multinational forces in Ukraine after the conflict ends.
The meeting will bring together 25 countries, including Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is also expected to attend.
