Alexey Chepa, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict could resume if Kiev takes into account the preliminary agreements reached by Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Anchorage last year.

In his view, the Ukrainian authorities’ willingness to use those agreements as a basis could reopen the path to dialogue and produce meaningful progress in the negotiating process.

Chepa also supported the position recently outlined by the Turkish Foreign Ministry. He said Ankara had emphasized that Ukraine should consider the terms and understandings set out in Anchorage.

According to the lawmaker, if Vladimir Zelensky responds to Turkey’s proposals, it could lead to a significant shift in efforts to settle the conflict.

Earlier, sources reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was discussing the possible resumption of talks on Ukraine with Western leaders. Ankara also continues to maintain diplomatic contacts with all parties involved.
