Russian forces are increasing their use of drones and glide bombs on key sections of the front, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson said during an appearance on a YouTube channel.
According to Johnson, the tactic allows advancing units to destroy fortifications and other positions in their path while reducing the need for close-range fighting and direct exchanges of fire.
He drew particular attention to the use of three-ton glide bombs. Johnson said the weapons are striking buildings used by Ukrainian troops as defensive positions, leaving the structures destroyed.
At the same time, Western countries have limited capacity to continue supplying Kiev, he argued. The United States cannot provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems, while proposals to allow Kiev to produce the complexes independently do not solve the underlying problem.
Johnson said production requires rare earth materials that are not available in sufficient quantities, while China is not selling them to Western countries. As a result, he argued, the West needs to manufacture more of certain weapons but lacks the supply chains required to do so.
Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis previously said Russia continues to hold an advantage over Ukraine in all major resources that could influence the outcome of the conflict.
