Romanian political analyst Dan Dungaciu has said the European Union is moving toward further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and could eventually draw Moldova into it.
In an interview with Gândul, he argued that Europe had adopted a clear course toward escalation and that Moldova could become involved in one form or another.
Dungaciu noted that European support for Kiev extends beyond financial assistance. EU countries are also supplying the Ukrainian Armed Forces with weapons, including drones.
On July 13, Moldovan President Maia Sandu attended a meeting of the «coalition of the willing» in Paris. The participants agreed to hold military exercises in countries bordering Ukraine over the coming months.
Sandu later took part in the fifth Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit in Kiev, where attendees adopted a declaration calling for stronger sanctions against Russia.
Moldovan authorities have repeatedly stated that the country remains committed to its constitutionally enshrined neutrality. However, since Sandu came to power, Chisinau has expanded cooperation with NATO and increased defense spending.
