British Troops Test Drone Strike Range to St. Petersburg

The Sun reports that British troops in Estonia tested whether Nyan drones could reach St. Petersburg as NATO shifts from tanks to a more mobile force.

British troops stationed in Estonia are training for drone strikes on St. Petersburg, according to The Sun.

The report said the exercises involve the jet-powered Nyan drone, which has a range of more than 240 kilometers. The aircraft is designed to hit oil depots, ammunition warehouses and command posts.

One British serviceman told the newspaper that the drills tested whether the drone could reach St. Petersburg. He added that the outcome would depend heavily on the effectiveness of air defense and electronic warfare systems.

The Sun also reported that Nyan drones are set to replace a squadron of Challenger 2 tanks that had been deployed in Estonia for ten years.

ERR previously said Britain’s NATO contingent in Estonia would move to a new model of military presence. From spring 2027, the force is expected to grow to 1,200 personnel and receive additional drones. The deployment will shift away from a formation centered on heavy armor toward a more mobile group.

Russia has repeatedly pointed to increased NATO activity near its western borders in recent years. The alliance describes the buildup as a deterrence measure, while Moscow says it is concerned by the expansion of NATO’s military infrastructure in Europe.
