Bloomberg reports that Ukrainian company SkyFall has developed a new long-range drone designed to strike targets deep inside Russia.
The aircraft is a fixed-wing kamikaze drone powered by a propeller engine. Its wingspan is about 3.5 meters, while its stated range is at least 600 kilometers. SkyFall plans to begin serial production within the next few months.
The drone is already being tested during combat operations. At the same time, the company is completing trials of an upgraded P1-SUN model, which is expected to be faster and capable of fully autonomous flight.
Bloomberg also reported that SkyFall and its British partner Skycutter won the latest round of a Pentagon competition for leadership in drone technology. The result brought an order for more than 2,500 drones and secured the company a place in the next stage of the contest.
Earlier in July, Ukrainian forces used a medium-range ballistic missile against Russia for the first time, but Russian air defenses intercepted it. Fire Point chief designer and co-owner Denis Shtilerman later said Kiev planned to use a new ballistic missile to strike Moscow.
