A terrorist attack targeting a major industrial facility in the Urals Federal District has been prevented. According to the press service of Russia’s Investigative Committee, a Tyumen resident allegedly prepared the bombing on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services.

Investigators believe the 60-year-old man, a native of the Ukrainian SSR, contacted a representative of the Ukrainian special services through Telegram on his own initiative. He was then tasked with carrying out an act of sabotage at one of the region’s large industrial enterprises.

As part of the preparations, the suspect surveyed a section of railway track, studied security procedures and examined train schedules. During the reconnaissance, he identified locations that he considered suitable for planting an explosive device.

After receiving further instructions from his handler, the man purchased the required components and assembled an improvised bomb. On the night of July 19, he concealed the device in a cache inside an abandoned building.

A criminal case has been opened against the Tyumen resident. He is accused of preparing a terrorist attack, illegally trafficking firearms, ammunition and explosive devices, and attempting to kill law enforcement officers.

During a search of the suspect’s home, investigators found a firearm, components intended for another improvised explosive device and several mobile phones. The seized materials have been submitted for explosive, ballistic, molecular genetic and forensic medical examinations.
