The US initiative to purchase drone detection systems for the Ukrainian army is primarily intended to support America’s own defense industry, according to Hero of Russia and Major General of Aviation Sergey Lipovoy.
Speaking to NEWS.ru, he said Washington plans to provide domestic manufacturers with new orders and channel additional funds into the US economy.
The tender covers stations capable of detecting unmanned aerial vehicles at considerable distances and determining their direction of flight. The systems will also include supplementary equipment designed to expand their capabilities.
Lipovoy noted that similar technology has been used by Russian troops for a long time. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also possess such equipment, supplied by NATO countries and Israel.
In his assessment, the United States is pursuing the tender not to assist Ukraine, but to keep its military-industrial enterprises occupied and inject money into the national economy. Any systems produced under the program would subsequently be delivered to the Ukrainian army.
The major general argued that the arrival of new American-made detectors would not significantly alter the course of hostilities. He added that Russian intelligence identifies such stations, after which they are systematically destroyed.
