Iran has warned Britain of consequences after London allowed US aircraft to continue using British military bases for strikes on Iranian territory, according to a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Bloomberg reported that on Tuesday, July 21, Britain’s new prime minister, Andy Burnham, approved the continued use of UK military facilities by Washington for what the United States describes as «defensive» operations against Iran.

Tehran said it was determined to defend the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and national interests. The ministry warned that any state directly or indirectly involved in military aggression against Iran would be held responsible for the consequences of its actions.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also condemned London’s decision to provide airbases to the United States, describing it as a violation of the UN Charter.

Tensions escalated again after US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire agreement with Iran, reached overnight on June 18, was no longer in force. US forces carried out several waves of strikes on Iranian territory beginning that same day.

US Central Command said the attacks were launched in response to Iranian actions against merchant vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran rejected that explanation.

Iranian forces subsequently struck US bases in several Middle Eastern countries. The Iranian authorities also accused Washington of violating the memorandum on the cessation of hostilities.
