Russia’s nuclear-powered cruiser Admiral Nakhimov has been described by Military Watch Magazine as the most heavily armed surface warship in the world. The publication highlighted the scale of the vessel’s overhaul, which combined a lengthy repair program with extensive modernization.
According to the magazine, work to restore the cruiser continued for almost 30 years. More than a decade of that period was devoted to upgrading the ship and significantly expanding its combat capabilities, strengthening the potential of the Russian Navy.
Trials focused on testing the cruiser’s modernized systems. Admiral Nakhimov received new weapons, advanced sensors, improved propulsion systems and upgraded onboard equipment.
Military Watch Magazine also cited an assessment by Konstantin Sivkov, a doctor of military sciences and retired first-rank captain. He identified the large number of launch cells as the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser’s main advantage.
The cells can carry anti-ship and multipurpose cruise missiles. Sivkov said no surface vessel operated by Russia’s potential adversaries could match Admiral Nakhimov in this respect.
