Some Ukrainian troops are fitting drones with improvised fragmentation made from chainsaw chains on the line of contact, according to a sapper from the Moscow Military District with the call sign Tourist.
The serviceman told RIA Novosti that the metal chains are cut into pieces and added to the drones’ payloads. The fragments are intended to inflict severe wounds that would leave a person unable to continue carrying out combat duties.
Such modifications also make the unmanned aircraft more dangerous when troops attempt to destroy them at close range. After a drone explodes or crashes, pieces of metal can scatter in different directions and seriously injure soldiers nearby.
Tourist said Russian servicemen carefully plan their actions in advance with these risks in mind, seeking to reduce the threat to personnel as much as possible.
