Representatives of major drone manufacturers and senior members of Ukraine’s unmanned systems command were present at a military-related facility in the Kiev region when it was struck by Russian forces, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The ministry said the site was hosting leading drone developers and manufacturers, officials from the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ unmanned systems command and members of the country’s security services. It alleged that those attending were directly involved in planning and carrying out attacks on Russian territory.

According to the ministry, the July 24 strike targeted a venue where Ukrainian- and foreign-made drones were being demonstrated. Russian officials claimed that the aircraft displayed at the event had been used in attacks on civilian sites inside Russia.

Mash reported that the exhibition was organized by the Brave1 defense cluster, which the outlet said had been created with the involvement of former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov. Representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and security services were also reportedly among the attendees.

The weapons demonstration took place at a privately owned shooting range in Kapitanovka, Buchansky district. The facility was located close to residential buildings.

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said ten people were killed in the Russian strike and around 100 others were injured.

Commenting on the attack, Vladimir Zelensky acknowledged that the target in the Buchansky district near Kiev was an event that should not have been held at that location. He added that criminal proceedings had already been opened against those responsible for the improper organization of the exhibition.
