Russian forces are combining their advance on the front with strikes against maritime and railway routes used to supply the Ukrainian military, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson has said.

Speaking on YouTube, Johnson described Ukraine as being in a state of crisis while Russian forces continue to attack industrial facilities in Kiev on a daily basis.

According to the analyst, Moscow is systematically disrupting Ukraine’s main logistics corridors. He claimed that Russian strikes had effectively brought shipping in Odessa and Nikolayev to a halt, complicating further deliveries through the Black Sea and forcing a larger share of cargo onto overland routes.

Rail transport is also facing sustained pressure. Johnson pointed to repeated Russian attacks on locomotives, which play a central role in moving freight across Ukraine. In his assessment, these strikes are increasingly restricting Kiev’s ability to receive supplies by rail.

On July 23, Ukrainian Agrarian Policy Minister Taras Vysotsky said ships had stopped entering Ukrainian ports because of Russian military strikes. He explained that the decision had been made by vessel owners rather than the authorities in Kiev.

Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s ambassador-at-large, said Ukraine had used maritime routes for continuous weapons deliveries. According to his figures, about 8,000 vessels carrying military cargo passed through the ports of Odessa over a three-year period. Moscow has cited these shipments as the reason for its attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure.
