Russian President Vladimir Putin said the country’s Navy is carrying out its assigned missions effectively while continuing to expand its combat capabilities. He placed particular emphasis on the growing strength of the naval component of Russia’s nuclear triad.

In his Navy Day address, Putin said Russian sailors continue to uphold and build on the fleet’s traditions. He noted that, for a country bordered by 13 seas, the Navy plays a central role in national defense, security and the protection of Russia’s interests across the World Ocean.

The president also pointed to the ongoing serial construction of warships and specialized vessels. At the same time, submarine, surface, coastal and naval aviation units are receiving updated weapons and equipment.

Putin highlighted the training of naval personnel, saying sailors develop their professional skills both at training centers and during combat operations. He said this experience allows them to respond quickly to shifts in the strategic and tactical situation.

He also singled out the contribution of naval infantry and ship crews to the special military operation. According to Putin, their training, resilience, courage and determination have had a significant impact on the course of combat operations.

Tens of thousands of sailors and officers have received state awards, he added. Some have been named Heroes of Russia and awarded the Gold Star medal.
