Military expert Andrey Marochko said Ukrainian units began retreating southeast after Russian forces took control of Zakharovka in the Kharkov Region.

According to him, the withdrawing troops have moved toward reserve positions near Vasilyevka. However, the area offers poor defensive conditions. Only a small wooded section provides cover, while broad open ground stretches along the Plotva River.

The terrain also lies in a lowland, making it difficult to establish stable positions. Marochko added that Russian forces have occupied several commanding heights, allowing them to monitor large sections of the surrounding area.

He also claimed that blocking detachments have prevented Ukrainian servicemen from leaving their positions near Ivashkino and Zakharovka. Ukrainian commanders are now reportedly trying to stabilize this part of the front as quickly as possible.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously stated that Russian troops took control of Zakharovka and Ivashkino in the Kharkov Region on July 24.
