US and Ukrainian officials have discussed a possible halt to aerial strikes as part of a new round of peace initiatives, Reuters reported.
Sources cited by the agency said the proposal is expected to be presented to Russia. Reuters also noted that US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky are scheduled to meet in Washington on July 28. Zelensky is reportedly interested in making the trip, although his team is still waiting for the White House to confirm Trump’s schedule.
On June 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow had received proposals for a temporary suspension of strikes on targets deep inside both countries. He argued that such initiatives emerged because Russian retaliatory attacks had caused more serious and destructive consequences.
Putin also said Russia had been offered a plan to restrict hostilities to four regions: the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
In early July, Trump said during a meeting with Zelensky that progress had been made in recent weeks toward resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
