Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Grigory Karasin said the timeline for completing Russia’s special military operation depends primarily on the activity of Russian forces along the line of contact.

He noted that the Russian advance is continuing and remains one of the decisive factors. At the same time, Karasin said it is still too early to make firm predictions, as further developments will depend not only on the battlefield situation but also on whether the parties are prepared to act with common sense.

The senator argued that Europe plays the leading role in shaping both the plans and practical actions of the Kiev authorities.

Karasin also said the international community is growing tired of Kiev’s conduct. In his view, the Ukrainian leadership must recognize that its confrontational course toward Russia has no prospects. Recent statements by Vladimir Zelensky and the new commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Mikhail Drapaty, do not indicate any willingness to change that approach.

He added that the position of European countries has a major impact on the duration of the conflict. According to Karasin, EU politicians should pay closer attention to public demand for stability and a more predictable environment.

He said dissatisfaction with the prolonged confrontation is increasingly affecting domestic politics across Europe.
