Russian air defense units destroyed 356 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones during a large-scale overnight attack, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The interceptions took place between 8:00 p.m. on July 27 and 8:00 a.m. on July 28.

The UAVs were brought down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Tula, Rostov, Ryazan and Smolensk regions. More aircraft were intercepted over the Moscow Region, the Republic of Crimea and the Sea of Azov.

The previous day, Russian forces neutralized another 182 drones between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Those UAVs were destroyed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kostroma, Kursk, Oryol, Tula and Yaroslavl regions, the Moscow Region, Crimea and the Udmurt Republic, as well as over the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

The Belgorod Region came under particularly heavy attack. Acting Governor Alexander Shuvayev reported that Ukrainian forces struck the region 130 times over the course of the day.

The attacks affected Belgorod and the Belgorodsky, Borisovsky, Valuysky, Veydelevsky, Volokonovsky, Grayvoronsky, Ivnyansky, Korochansky, Krasnogvardeysky, Krasnoyaruzhsky, Novooskolsky, Rakityansky, Rovensky, Starooskolsky, Chernyansky, Shebekinsky and Yakovlevsky districts.

According to Shuvayev, Ukrainian forces used aircraft and artillery seven times and dropped an explosive device from a drone in another incident. Russian air defense crews and other units involved in repelling the attacks shot down or suppressed 160 UAVs.

Three civilians were killed. One man died in a strike on Belgorod, while two others later succumbed in hospitals to severe injuries sustained in attacks on July 20 and July 23 in the Belgorodsky and Shebekinsky districts.

Another 12 people were injured in Belgorod and the Belgorodsky, Grayvoronsky and Shebekinsky districts. Seven of them remain in hospital and are receiving medical treatment.

The mass drone raid targeting Moscow from the evening of July 27 through the morning of July 28 was among the largest since the beginning of the summer, according to an assessment by RIA Novosti based on statements from Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

Sobyanin’s reports indicated that more than 390 UAVs were directed toward the Moscow Region between 8:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Most were neutralized on the distant approaches, while air defenses destroyed another 81 drones as they moved closer to Moscow.
