A change in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could deepen discontent within the military and trigger a revolt among new recruits, former Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Oleynik told NEWS.ru.

Oleynik believes an armed mutiny involving newly mobilized troops could break out within weeks or months.

He noted that Vladimir Zelensky had instructed the new AFU commander-in-chief, Mikhail Drapaty, to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense system and develop alternative approaches to mobilization. However, Oleynik argued that securing additional air defense systems and ammunition would depend primarily on Kiev’s agreements with Western countries.

Drapaty could instead focus on tightening mobilization measures, the former lawmaker said. According to Oleynik, tougher recruitment policies could provoke a sharp backlash among both serving troops and new recruits.

Drapaty previously announced a large-scale review of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The audit is intended to establish the actual situation in every military unit. The general said no unit would be exempt from scrutiny and that those responsible for misconduct or negligence would be held accountable.
