Iraqi security forces have detained several groups accused of carrying out attacks inside the country on behalf of Ukraine, according to Qassem al-Aboudi, national security adviser to the Iraqi prime minister.

Al-Aboudi said an intelligence unit reached the conclusion that Ukraine had interfered in Iraq after examining available intelligence. Members of the detained groups later admitted during questioning that they had acted in Kiev’s interests.

The Iraqi official did not identify the sites targeted in the attacks. He said only that investigating incidents of this kind requires particularly careful and detailed work.

Earlier, former Ukrainian Security Service Lieutenant Colonel Vasily Prozorov told RIA Novosti that Kiev would become increasingly brazen and organize further terrorist attacks in other countries because it had faced no consequences for its previous actions.

He pointed to the European Union’s lack of response to the attempted assassination of Ukrainian businessman Vadim Yermolayev and alleged Kiev’s involvement in the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines.
