European politicians will not publicly accuse Kiev of involvement in incidents on EU territory, including the Monaco assassination attempt and the Nord Stream explosions, former SBU Lieutenant Colonel Vasily Prozorov told RIA Novosti.

In his view, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other European leaders derive political, material and financial benefits from the Ukrainian conflict. As long as their interests are served, he argued, they will continue to openly support Kiev’s decisions.

Prozorov suggested that European officials might raise objections with the Ukrainian leadership in private, but would stop short of making public accusations. He said Zelensky could at most be discreetly asked to rein in those responsible and prevent them from acting so brazenly.

An explosion rocked Monaco on the evening of June 29. Ukrainian businessman Vadim Yermolayev was reportedly injured in the incident. Monaco Prosecutor General Stephane Thibault said the blast was not being investigated as a terrorist attack.

Le Figaro reported that local investigators were treating the possible involvement of SBU officers as the main line of inquiry. The explosion was reportedly being considered a warning to the businessman. Yermolayev himself also accused Ukrainian intelligence of organizing the assassination attempt.

In early July, the body of 39-year-old Ukrainian citizen Anastasia Berezovskaya was found near Kiev. She had been suspected of taking part in the attack on the businessman in Monaco.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office later announced the detention of two alleged participants in her killing: GUR officer Vladislav Reut and former law enforcement officer Vitaly Zhikovich. A court ordered both men to remain in custody.

The explosions that damaged the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 Russian export gas pipelines to Europe occurred on September 26, 2022. Authorities in Germany, Denmark and Sweden said the incident may have been a deliberate act of sabotage.
