Equipping the heavy FAB-3000 aerial bomb with a universal planning and correction module, known as UMPC, has significantly expanded its combat capabilities. Rostec said the upgraded munition can destroy heavily protected targets, including fortified command posts and permanent defensive structures.

The Russian Defense Ministry regularly reports strikes on Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities using FAB high-explosive bombs fitted with UMPC modules. The munitions are carried by Su-34 frontline bombers. Both the aircraft and the bombs are produced by enterprises within the Rostec corporation.

Rostec described the Su-34 and the upgraded FAB bombs as an effective aircraft-and-munition combination. The module uses a combined inertial and satellite guidance system. Target coordinates are entered before the mission, allowing the crew to release the bomb from a distance of several dozen kilometers.

A Su-34 can carry several such munitions on a single sortie. This makes it possible to combine high strike accuracy with substantial destructive power.

UMPC modules are also fitted to smaller FAB-1500, FAB-500 and FAB-250 bombs. Rostec said these munitions are effective against dispersed targets, concentrations of military equipment and field fortifications.
