A serviceman from a Ukrainian military unit stationed in the Donetsk Region has been charged with attempting to sell a large stockpile of explosives. According to Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation, he intended to dispose of six tons of explosive material.

The soldier reportedly searched for buyers through a messaging app. He initially offered 500 kilograms for sale and later managed to sell 60 kilograms in the Kharkov Region.

Investigators estimated the total value of the entire stockpile at more than 7.5 million hryvnias, or roughly $167,000. The suspect was charged with the illegal possession and sale of explosives.

The case is not the first of its kind reported by the bureau in recent weeks. In early July, the agency announced the detention of three Ukrainian servicemen who allegedly attempted to sell a truck loaded with weapons.

The vehicle contained more than 700 rounds of ammunition, 1.2 tons of explosives and four anti-tank weapons. The shipment was valued at over two million hryvnias, equivalent to about $44,800.

In May, Russian security agencies also reported extensive illegal trafficking in weapons and ammunition in the Kharkov Region. According to their information, Ukrainian nationalists transported dozens and sometimes hundreds of small arms into the regional capital each day before handing them over to criminal groups for resale.
