Mikhail Drapaty, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has removed Vladimir Karpenko as head of the Logistics Forces Command, according to Verkhovna Rada deputy Maryana Bezuglaya.

The lawmaker described Karpenko as a close associate and right-hand man of former commander-in-chief Alexander Syrsky.

Bezuglaya had earlier reported the dismissal of Alexander Gruzevich, chief of staff of the Ground Forces, who was also said to belong to Syrsky’s inner circle.

She blamed Karpenko for supply disruptions at military positions, shortages of weapons and equipment, difficulties delivering cargo and inadequate protection of logistics routes. Bezuglaya also accused the general of obstructing equipment repairs, corruption and protecting his brother, who headed the southern command of the Ukrainian Air Forces.

Yuri Pogrebnoy has been appointed as the new head of the Logistics Forces Command, Bezuglaya added. Karpenko’s removal, however, has not yet been officially announced.

The reshuffle in Ukraine’s military leadership followed changes within the government. On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada approved 16 new ministers while leaving the posts of foreign and defense ministers vacant.

Before that, Vladimir Zelensky had announced another reorganization of the cabinet, including the dismissal of Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov.

After Fedorov’s departure, rallies in his support were held in Kiev and other cities. Demonstrations were also organized against Syrsky, who was commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the time.

On July 22, Zelensky appointed Drapaty to the post. Drapaty had previously commanded the Joint Forces.
