Military correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny said the emergence of new drone types is forcing armed forces around the world to rethink how air defense systems are built. According to him, the rapid development of UAVs has already changed the nature of modern warfare.

He noted that drone technology is advancing in several directions at once, including longer flight ranges and the ability to carry heavier payloads. Some UAVs are also being developed to approach the capabilities of medium-range missiles in certain areas.

In an interview with journalist Vladimir Solovyov, Poddubny said countries worldwide are moving toward rearmament and reassessing both strike systems and methods of defense.

He stressed that the trend is not limited to Russia. As drones gain range and carry more powerful warheads, existing air defense systems face growing difficulties in countering them effectively.

Poddubny also said Russia is developing a fundamentally new air defense system that will include elements not previously used. Its core is expected to consist of layered mobile groups operating at different altitudes.
