Ukraine and Latvia have agreed to combine their efforts in the development, testing and production of unmanned systems, the Latvian Defense Ministry said.

The two sides signed a series of memorandums in Riga covering joint investment projects, technology transfers and the construction of modern infrastructure for drone testing in Latvia.

According to the ministry, the agreements are also intended to attract funding for the production and further development of unmanned systems while expanding the industrial capacity needed to support such programs.

Latvian defense officials said the memorandums would lay the groundwork for a competitive ecosystem focused on drone technology and dual-use systems.

Cooperation with Ukrainian companies will be one of the central elements of the initiative. Riga plans to draw on the experience and technical expertise those firms have accumulated in developing unmanned platforms.

About a month earlier, on June 29, reports emerged that Latvia and Ukraine were considering building a drone manufacturing plant near the Latvian-Russian border. Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs had previously spoken about the proposal.
