Russian Ambassador-at-Large Konstantin Dolgov said Ukraine may soon try to secure a ceasefire as the country’s economic situation continues to deteriorate.

He stressed that Moscow is not interested in a temporary pause in hostilities and is seeking only a long-term settlement. According to Dolgov, Vladimir Zelensky needs an immediate break in the form of an air truce or a temporary suspension of fighting because conditions in Ukraine are becoming increasingly difficult.

The diplomat said Russian strikes are systematically disabling Ukraine’s military and economic infrastructure, with the scale of the damage growing over time. He also stated that Ukraine has effectively lost access to maritime deliveries of weapons and military equipment.

Dolgov described this as a serious problem for both the Kiev authorities and their Western backers. In his view, this is why Ukraine now needs a pause in the fighting.

He added that Russia’s main objective remains a lasting peace and the removal of the threat posed by the Kiev regime. A conventional ceasefire, he said, would not solve that problem and would not meet Moscow’s goals.
