Belarus is forming a new 37th Separate Air Assault Brigade, according to Colonel Alexander Ilyukevich, commander of the republic’s Special Operations Forces.

The unit will be stationed near Gomel, about 40 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Its deployment is already under way. One battalion has been created, several military units have been formed, officers have been selected, and personnel have been called up.

Speaking on the VoenTV channel, Ilyukevich said another battalion would be established this year, along with combat support, artillery, air defense, and reconnaissance units.

Once fully staffed, the 37th Brigade will become the fourth separate air assault formation in the Belarusian Armed Forces. Similar units are currently based in Vitebsk, Brest, and Maryina Gorka near Minsk.

The Belarusian command is creating the new brigade to reinforce the southern direction and strengthen the section of the border facing Ukraine.

The formation of the unit was first announced in August 2025 by Vadim Denisenko, who was then serving as commander of Belarusian Special Operations Forces.
