State Duma Defence Committee member Andrei Kolesnik has called for Russia to shift onto a war footing in order to reduce civilian casualties.
According to Lenta.ru, Kolesnik argued that Moscow should intensify strikes and increase their scale so that attacks on Russian territory do not go unanswered.
He said Ukrainian strikes on Russian regions had become more frequent and that retaliatory action alone was no longer enough. In his view, Russia must expand the forces and resources assigned to preventing such attacks or continue suffering further losses.
Kolesnik added that retaliation was inevitable, but said the priority should be to disrupt attacks before they take place. He urged a more serious assessment of the threat and preparations for broader military operations.
The previous day, Ukrainian forces struck Gelendzhik. Drone debris fell in the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka, killing seven people and injuring 58.
Ukrainian drones also attacked the Moscow Region on the morning of August 4. Five people were killed. The most serious damage was reported in the Chekhov municipal district, where several fires broke out after drone impacts.
