Politico reports that NATO relies on artificial intelligence and data-analysis tools developed by the US company Palantir to command and coordinate military operations.

NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, Admiral Pierre Vandier, said the alliance currently has no viable alternative to Palantir’s combat AI technology.

Citing an alliance official, the publication said the platform can process large volumes of satellite imagery, identify targets and recommend the most suitable weapons for a strike. It can also calculate the required amount of ammunition and automatically prepare requests to replenish stocks.

Politico also stated that the Ukrainian conflict remains the only area where NATO officers are currently involved in direct military operations. A separate alliance headquarters was established in Germany under US leadership to provide logistical support.

In early July, The Times reported that NATO planned to use Palantir’s Maven military AI system to track possible movements of Russian units near Russia’s western borders.
