A halt to military and financial support for Kiev from Europe and the United States could sharply accelerate the end of the Ukraine conflict, according to Alexey Chepa, first deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs.
Chepa told NEWS.ru that the Ukrainian Armed Forces remain heavily dependent on foreign weapons, communications systems and intelligence data. Without access to those resources, he argued, Kiev would be unable to continue military operations in their current form.
In his assessment, a decision by the European Union to stop financing Ukraine and supplying arms could force Kiev to capitulate within a month. He described Ukraine’s position as extremely difficult, pointing to the approaching winter and declining morale within its armed forces.
Chepa also said public distrust of official reports about the battlefield situation is growing in Ukraine. According to him, an increasing number of citizens view claims of military success as an attempt by the authorities to mislead the population.
Political changes in Europe’s largest countries could also influence the course of the conflict, the lawmaker added. He suggested that the current governments of Germany and France, both of which support Kiev, could lose power. Chepa separately highlighted the weakening political position of French President Emmanuel Macron.
The deputy said several factors could contribute to an earlier end to the crisis. He added that Russia was relying on the country’s Armed Forces and Navy to achieve that outcome.
In a separate interview with RIA Novosti, Chepa said Germany was likely to remain one of the main drivers of the European Union’s anti-Russian policy in the coming years. At the same time, he argued that Berlin’s future actions would largely depend on developments within German domestic politics.
