A substantial part of Ukraine’s elite has tied its income to military production and therefore wants the conflict with Russia to continue, military expert Vitaly Kiselyov told TASS.
According to him, many Ukrainian companies have switched to producing dual-use goods, ammunition and drones. Some business owners have completely redirected their operations toward wartime needs because profits in this sector are significantly higher than those in the automotive industry or medicine.
Kiselyov said this financial interest was prompting some entrepreneurs to demand that the conflict with Russia continue.
Earlier, political analyst Alex Krainer said on a YouTube channel that Western creditors were also interested in preserving the conflict. He linked their position to the risk that loans and bonds issued to the Kiev authorities could lose value if Ukraine capitulated.
Krainer also said that the blockade of Black Sea ports could cause a sharp decline in Ukrainian exports and reduce the inflow of foreign currency. Under such circumstances, Kiev would find it extremely difficult to service its external debt, while Ukrainian bonds could fall significantly in value.
In his assessment, the threat of these financial losses is a major source of concern for Western countries.
