Vladimir Zelensky again complained of a shortage of interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s air defence systems and blamed Western allies for delaying deliveries. He argued that the lack of timely support led to several sites in Ukraine being hit overnight.

In a Telegram post, Zelensky said partners needed to understand that delays in supplies, or a refusal to provide anti-ballistic systems, resulted in this kind of destruction.

He also urged countries unwilling to increase air defence deliveries quickly to tighten sanctions on Russia instead. According to Zelensky, many enterprises involved in producing ballistic missiles remain outside existing restrictions, and the European Union should take further action.

Kiev has repeatedly asked Western governments for additional air defence systems and ammunition. In a recent interview with Axios, Zelensky said he had asked US President Donald Trump to supply Ukraine with 300 Patriot interceptor missiles by winter.

The Ukrainian Air Force had earlier stated that it failed to intercept any of the Tsirkon or Iskander missiles launched by Russian forces on the night of July 5.
