Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces had taken control of two settlements during the special military operation: Ryzhevka in Sumy Region and Zarnitsa in Zaporozhye Region.

According to the ministry’s August 5 briefing, units of the North troop grouping captured Ryzhevka, while soldiers from the East grouping took Zarnitsa.

Ryzhevka lies close to the border with Russia’s Kursk Region. The Russian settlement of Tetkino is located farther north and has repeatedly come under Ukrainian shelling from across the border since 2022.

During the Ukrainian incursion into Kursk Region, the Russian Defense Ministry also reported several attempted breakthroughs toward Tetkino, including attacks launched from the direction of Ryzhevka.

Zarnitsa is a small village west of Rozhdestvenskoye in Zaporozhye Region. The ministry had already announced that the settlement had come under Russian control several weeks earlier.

The Defense Ministry estimated Ukrainian losses over the previous 24 hours at more than 1,350 servicemen. Its report also listed the destruction of one tank and two US-made AN/TPQ-36 counter-battery radar systems.
