French President Emmanuel Macron criticized the Russian military’s large-scale strike on Kiev in a post on X.

Macron argued that each such attack reinforces the case for punishing Russia and holding it accountable. He said European allies would continue increasing pressure on Moscow through new sanctions and expanded military support for Ukraine. The French leader added that Europe would stand with Ukraine and would not yield to fatigue or intimidation.

Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky urged Western partners to tighten anti-Russian sanctions if they were unwilling to provide Kiev with additional air-defense systems. He said the United States and the European Union were aware of the ammunition Ukraine needed and that further deliveries depended solely on a political decision.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces carried out a large-scale combined strike against strategic targets in Ukraine overnight on August 5. The ministry described the attack on Kiev and the surrounding region as one of the most intense in recent months, involving dozens of missiles and drones.

According to military correspondents, Russian forces used at least 35 Iskander tactical missiles, Zircon hypersonic missiles and several dozen Geran drones during the operation. NASA satellites reportedly detected fires in an industrial area in eastern Kiev following the strikes.
